Know the menu names

Bikini line. The narrowest service. Hair is cleared only from outside a standard swimsuit edge. Nothing is removed from the labia or between the buttocks.

Full bikini or extended bikini. Takes the sides further in and trims or removes hair from the top. Still front-only in most salons.

French. Clears the labia and leaves a strip at the front, but conventionally leaves hair between the buttocks intact. Some salons include the back in their French and charge accordingly; this is one of the most inconsistently defined items on any menu.

Brazilian. Front, labia and between the buttocks, with the option of leaving a strip or triangle at the front. This is the item the national figures above refer to.

Hollywood or full Brazilian. Everything removed with nothing left at the front. Several chains fold this into their Brazilian at no extra charge; others list it separately.

Because the definitions drift, the reliable approach is to describe the outcome you want in plain words at the start of the appointment. Any competent technician will map it to their menu and tell you the price before starting.

Each is a small add-on individually, but a client who assumed all three were included can be surprised by the final total.

What moves a quote up or down

Upward: a dense metro location, a longer booked slot, a technician with a specialist reputation, weekend and evening appointments in studios that price by demand, and add-ons chosen in the room. Numbing products, when a salon supplies them, are also billed separately.

Downward: midweek daytime appointments, new-client offers, prepaid packages, and studios that run a tight standard slot with an efficient routine. New-client promotions are common in franchise chains and genuinely useful for trying a salon, though they usually apply to a single visit and sometimes only to a lesser service tier.

Neutral, despite what people assume: how much hair you have. Salons price by service, not by density. A first appointment after years of shaving takes longer, but almost nobody charges more for it — they simply need you to book realistically.

Questions to ask before booking

Ask exactly what the Brazilian covers at that salon, naming the buttocks, the stomach strip and the upper thigh individually. Do this on the phone or in the booking notes rather than in the room.

Ask how long the appointment is scheduled for. Twenty minutes is workable for a maintenance client and tight for a first visit; if you are new, ask whether they hold a longer slot.

Ask whether the price shown online is current and whether it includes a first-visit offer that will not apply next time. Comparing a promotional rate at one salon against a standard rate at another is the most common way people misjudge which is actually cheaper.
